More About FSC Cigarettes
“How do I know I have a pack of FSC Cigarettes?”
There are markings on the box or around the barcode as depicted below:

A Fire Safe Cigarette (FSC) has a reduced tendency to burn when it is lit and left unattended. Tobacco companies have done this by implementing two to three bands of less porous paper onto the existing tobacco paper containing EVA (also known as ethylene vinyl acetate). Once the burning cigarette reaches these bands, the cigarette burns much slower, and if it is not smoked it is then extingushed on it’s own.

Though originally designed to reduce the number of household fires, logically, FSC cigarettes still do not show much promise as to justifying the addition of extra chemicals into cigarettes. FSC cigarettes still have the potential to be dropped into flammable clothing, liquids, or near other combustible items and will still cause the same damage as a normal non FSC cigarette.
It is also apparent that because the FSC cigarette has a tendency to burn out faster, the smoker must drag the cigarette much more which in turn makes the cigarette burn faster(the complete opposite effect of what this legislation is put up to remedy) and creates a hazard in it’s own sense.
FSC cigarettes are also known to cause other problems, such as uneven burning of the cigarette which leads to an increased likelihood of cigarette ashes being dispersed. FSC cigarettes also tend to have much thicker ashes as the cigarette gets to the area of ethylene vinyl acetate. This calls for a much messier and potentially more hazardous smoking session for a cigarette smoker.
